Merry Christmas: Gift Ideas

•December 20, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Dear Quickie readers and romance aficionados,

“It is better to give than to receive.” Or so they say. This doesn’t meant that you can’t give gifts that are even more fun to give than they are to receive. Muhahaha.

Obviously, I’m biased, but I have always thought that personalized romance novels are the perfect gift. Especially to your sassy best friend who has a thing for pirates or your significant other.

Here are  links to a couple of sites where you pick a template and they change some details for you to make it, well, personalized. I think putting their picture on the cover is a nice touch. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

Featured Romance Writer: Mechelle Fogelsong

•December 2, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Dear Quickie readers and romance aficionados,

Today I have a little treat for you. It’s been far too long since there have been any romance stories on Quickie and that’s what this site is founded on! I will gladly end this tragedy by featuring the writer and blogger Mechelle Fogelsong.

Mechelle has a blog for teens called Passing Love Notes. If you like this story and want to see more of her work or have questions about life at large, check her out.

Enjoy her story, “A Kiss Worthy of a Tardy Slip.” If only my high school experiences had been so juicy, sigh.

A Kiss Worthy of a Tardy Slip

Someone had blabbed, and as soon as Ellaree found out who’d narked on her, she wanted to drag the little slime-bucket across the gym floor by her slutty hoop earrings.

Ellaree had tried Oxyclog, Zitbeegone, and Anti-achne, but nothing had cleared up her plethora of pimples. And then her mom had suggested birth control pills. In one month’s time, her skin was as clear as the screen on a shiny new cell phone.

She’d made the mistake of mentioning her secret anti-zit weapon to all of her close female friends at her parents’ Labor Day weekend backyard barbecue, and now the whole school knew that Ellaree was on the pill. As if that weren’t embarrassing enough, the guys on the football team had placed bets, and word had gotten back to Ellaree during her first hour algebra class. According to rumors, all eleven football players planned to ask her to the Homecoming dance. Not because she was zit-free, but because they wanted to get lucky.

Dumb jocks.

“What am I going to do?” Ellaree whimpered to her friend Karina.

“We’re going to hook you up with somebody.”

Ellaree looked stunned. “Right now? In Algebra?”

At the sound of the clanging bell, Karina nodded, grabbed Ellaree’s hand, and pulled her across the rapidly emptying classroom. In the far corner near the window, Karina’s twin brother shoved his algebra book into his black and green Element backpack.

Ellaree gasped, “No way. Not Romero.”

“Why not?” said Karina.

The boy in question spun around to squint at them.

Karina declared, “You’re going out with Ellaree, okay?”

His dark eyes bulging like a pair of eight balls, he looked from his sister to Ellaree and back again. “I am?”

Karina dipped her head in one curt nod.

“Do I get to kiss her?”

Ellaree’s jaw dropped. “I can’t pretend to go out with him! He’s a complete pervert!”

“I am not.”

“Are too!” The discussion had drawn the attention of their algebra teacher, so leaning closer to Romero, Ellaree lowered her voice to a power whisper. “I’ve seen the posters on the walls in your room.”

“What…?” Romero shrugged. “So I like girls. Big deal.”

Karina stamped her foot and her pine-needle-like earrings bobbed. “Look people, I don’t have time to argue with the two of you. I’m going to be late for biology. Ellaree, Romero’s the only hope you’ve got. You can be his temporary girlfriend, or you can singlehandedly beef it out with the wall of testosterone in the hall.”

“Rrrrggg!” Ellaree’s jaw tightened.

Romero swallowed. His eyes flicked from one girl to the other. “So is Ellaree my–”

“Don’t you dare call me something disgusting!” Ellaree cried.

He cleared his throat, “–or not?”

Ellaree rolled her eyes. “Yes. Fine. Whatever.”

Romero took Ellaree’s hand in his and marched out the door, dragging her with him. Six enormous guys in football jerseys stopped walking toward them and blinked. Romero pressed past them, leading a less-than-enthusiastic Ellaree to her locker down the hall. As she fiddled with her padlock, Ben McGarvey, the quarterback, moved in and said, “Hey Romero, can I talk to Ellaree for a sec?”

“Back off, McGarvey,” Romero grumbled. “I’ve got a corner on this market.” Ellaree had just placed her algebra book on the top shelf of her locker, but with her hands still above her head, Romero—her best friend’s brother no less—fastened his arms around her waist and pulled her into an unplanned kiss. She didn’t even hear McGarvey curse as he ambled away.

All of Ellaree’s nerve endings seemed to have converged in one part of her body… her lips. Her warmly caressed, gently moving lips. Open, close. Pucker, pull back. Kiss after kiss after slow and splendid kiss.

When Romero moved away, nothing worked right. She couldn’t remember how to move.

“Does this mean I’m taking you to the Homecoming dance?” Romero asked.

Ellaree nodded, gaping.

“Sweet.” He grinned. “That’s worth being late for class.”

Only then did Ellaree realize that the tardy bell had rung. The halls were bare. She finished exchanging books, and Romero walked her to her next class.

She agreed. That kiss had been surprisingly worthy of a tardy slip. But Romero? Who would’ve guessed?

Dear Quickie readers and romance aficionados,

It’s time to show your true colors and pick a side. As you might have guessed from my Eye Candy post about Taylor Lautner, I am Team Jacob all the way. What about you? Did you enjoy New Moon or was it not as good as it was hyped up to be? I haven’t seen it yet because I live in South Korea and it hasn’t be released here yet. For now, I will live vicariously though you dear readers.

Eye Candy: Iris’ Lee Byung-Hun

•November 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Dear Quickie Readers and romance aficionados,

I have just returned from a weekend trip to Fukuoka, Japan to enjoy the beautiful fall weather there. Fukuoka is  known as the city of “beautiful women.” Let me be the first to tell you, the men there are beautiful too!

Unfortunately, I became a bit too camera shy to capture any Japanese hotties, so I decided to dedicate this post to a Korean heart-throb that reminded me of one of the gorgeous men I saw on my trip.

Have you heard of the beautiful Lee Byung-Hun? He is the most famous in America for his role in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra as Storm Shadow.  He is a Korean star of the new hit Korean drama IRIS. His bone structure alone would be enough for me to watch the series without subtitles but luckily, I don’ have to.

If you are interested in seeing Lee Byung-Hun in action, you can head straight over to My Soju and watch IRIS with English subtitles for free-hurray!

If you are satisfied with mere pictures, then I encourage you to feast your eyes right here on Quickie!

Thanks for sticking by my side despite November’s sparse posting patch. I love you for it!

Dear Quickie readers and romance aficionados,

I have been very bad. Please forgive me for not posting in over a week. I have a great novel related reason though, so perhaps this will soften your hearts. Have you heard of NaNoWriMo? It’s an organization called National Novel Writing Month. Basically, in the month of November you try to write a 50,000 word novel. I’m a proud participant this year and am very behind on my word count. Please check out NaNoWriMo’s website here and I promise to post some excerpts or at least some eye candy for you in the next couple of days. Until then, NaNoWriMo FIGHTING!!!

Poll: Who is the sexiest vampire?

•October 26, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Dear Quickie readers and romance aficionados,
Here is a quickie (pun intended) Halloween poll for you sticking to my new vampire theme. There are so many good-looking vampires on TV and the silver screen these days it is hard for a girl to choose a favorite. I had to think long and hard about this, but I’m voting for True Blood’s Eric Northman. Now that he cut his hair for Season 2, he is pretty much unstoppable in my eyes. Please share your vote and enjoy pre-Halloween festivities. I consider gorging myself on candy and watching  hottie vampires on TV a great way to celebrate the season, don’t you?

Stargazing, Lips Grazing

•October 20, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Dear Quickie Readers and romance aficionados,

his is an excerpt from a novel I wrote three years ago. The rest of it needs a lot of work  but I felt like the romance scenes have real chemistry. I hope you enjoy it.

Here’s a brief synopsis; it’s about a ghost writer, CJ, and her country boy turned  P.H.D. student love interest Logan. CJ doesn’t want a boyfriend and can’t understand her undeniable attraction to Logan. He’s the polar opposite of what she usually goes for and she doesn’t plan on sticking around town after her book is finished. He turned her down for a kiss on their last date but reluctantly she agreed to go on another one…

Stargazing, Lips Grazing

Even though CJ  promised herself she would forget about Logan, she found herself letting him take her on a surprise date. It felt amazing to drive with the roof of his Jeep down, the night was humid but cooling off and CJ forgot how delicious it felt to shiver. The only problem was the occasional knat that targeted her face. She tried to discretely spit one out. They talked about traveling as they drove. Logan had apparently spent several months hiking through the Canadian wilderness. CJ imagined him being so happy out there. Again, the more she knew about him, the more she liked him. It was relaxing to be with someone so at ease, so opposite from her restless energy. He seemed to view the world in a beautiful, simple way where following your dreams and doing the right thing were only natural.

They pulled off of the main highway onto a gravel road and a couple of miles down Logan turned right into the middle of a field with swaying prairie grass as their only companion. Logan slowed down and turned off the engine and headlights. CJ felt uncertain for the first time. This date was getting a little too Jeepers Creepers for her. Was this surprise date going to involve a gruesome and untimely death?

“Ok, Logan you got me this time. What is it that you wanted to show me,” CJ said. Logan smiled at her and leaned closer to her.

“I’ll give you a clue. You don’t even have to leave the car to see it. Let me show you,” he said. He was facing her now and he reached his left arm to the other side of her seat. They faces were close and she could feel him breathing on her neck. Sure, she could barely contain herself when she was around him, but how conceited of him. She was about to tell him off when he reached beneath her seat and pulled back the lever. Her seat plunged backwards and she let out a little yelp.

“Sorry,” Logan laughed, scratching his head. “I wanted to keep you guessing until the last possible minute, I guess that wasn’t so smooth though.” He pulled his seat back too and then pointed up at the sky. Suddenly it all made sense. The moon was full and CJ couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. It looked enormous, at least twice as big as she had ever seen it and so brilliantly bright. The stars were twinkling fiercely and something inside of her was touched to the core. It had been so long since she had just appreciated how beautiful the simple things in life could be. Logan pointed out the big dipper and then they just sat there for a while gazing at the stars in silence.

“Logan, this is so beautiful. Thank you,” CJ said turning her head to look at him. Her eyes had adjusted to the light and the moon was shining over his face seeming to pool in his arresting eyes. He looked serious and CJ wondered if there was something wrong.

“CJ, there is something I have been meaning to tell you. I’m sorry about the other day when I took off in a hurry when you may have been trying to… tell me something,” Logan said. CJ blushed a little. She had thought she wanted to get it out in the open, but now that it was happening she wished they could go back to their comfortable silence.

“No, Logan, I’m sorry. I was reading into things that weren’t there and it was stupid of me to automatically assume that you were single or that it was some kind of date,” CJ said quickly wanting to get it all out.

“CJ, you weren’t wrong to assume anything. I would never treat a girl the way I treat you if… if I didn’t want her to be my girlfriend,” Logan said earnestly. Relief rushed over CJ but she still didn’t understand why he had pulled away from her.

“Well, you don’t owe me any explanations, Logan, I just wanted to tell you I’m sorry that I tried to kiss you, that’s all,” CJ said.

“CJ, please just let me finish what I am trying to tell you. I wanted to kiss you, very badly, I can’t stop staring at you when I’m around you, I’m not surprised you noticed. It’s just that, CJ, I think you are absolutely gorgeous, but you’re a hell of a lot more than that. Let me put it this way, you could have any man you want, and I could never take advantage of you because you are in a vulnerable position. You are out of your element right now, I’m sure that in New York you go on real dates and I couldn’t bare to be that guy who got with you because you were in a transitional period. I wanted to show you that I could do something nice for you without expecting anything in return. When you tried to kiss me, I realized if I didn’t leave right away I wouldn’t be able to stop myself even though it’s not what you needed,” Logan said. He looked so sincere, like he was in a confessional. CJ couldn’t believe what she was hearing, how could she have been so wrong about his intentions?

“And what are you doing right now?” CJ asked. It was the only thing she could say, but she wanted to kiss him more than anything in the world. His lips were the only thing her traitorous eyes could focus on. Logan grinned a devilishly.

“I decided to hell with what was right. If the only reason I can get with a knockout like you is because you are in a transitional period, then I would be a damn fool not to take advantage of this situation,” Logan said. CJ’s heart pounded and she felt hope lighten her entire body until she thought she might float out of the car. She hadn’t even allowed herself to admit how badly she wanted him until this moment. It made her breath catch in her throat because it was more than she had dared to hope for. Her whole body relaxed and she leaned into Logan, not giving him enough time to protest and gave him a deep wet kiss that lasted a minute. At first he seemed stiff with shyness but soon his mouth became soft under her probing lips.

“Trust me Logan,” CJ said coming up for air, “I may be in a weird place in my life, but one thing is certain. I am lucky to be with you.” He smiled at her and cupped her chin with his hand and gently pulled her towards him again. This time he kissed her back, softly at first, but he soon had her moaning under the soft gentle orbs he was making with his tongue. His full lips felt perfect between her teeth and she gently sucked on them slowly at first and then opened her mouth, letting herself forget what was happening and simply enjoy how good it felt to be in his arms. Logan stroked her hair with one hand and had his thumb on her chin, cupping her face with his other hand. Maybe it was true what they say about full moons, CJ would have loved an astrological explanation, but all she knew for sure was she had never felt so alive.

Her body felt fluid and soft under his touch. Soon his fingers were making slow circles down her back and when he reached the bottom of her black cotton tank top, his fingers dipped underneath it and started sliding up her stomach. She tilted her head back under his soft fingertips and he took the opportunity to kiss her neck. CJ let out a content sigh. He had found her secret pleasure spot and was covering it with rough kisses. He sucked on her neck by her collarbone and then bit her gently, raking his teeth over her delicate skin. This time she let out a real moan, and at that exact moment his fingers began to gently stroke her breasts. He slid his fingers beneath the elastic band of her tank top and his thumbs made gentle circles on her pert nipples. After about a minute of this routine, she felt dazed with pleasure and forgetting where she was, pulled off her tank top. Logan sat back a moment and just gazed at her and then bit his lip.

“God, CJ,” he said. “You are so much more beautiful than I even imagined and trust me, I have a vivid imagination.” With visible difficulty he brought his gaze up to her eyes.

They kissed and caressed for another hour until CJ reluctantly pulled her shirt on, sucking in the night air to cool her swimming head. Logan dropped her off at her house that night and as said goodbye, he pulled her in for the kiss she had so desperately wanted the last time they were together.

“This is to make up for last time,” he said, grinning sheepishly.

“Trust me Logan, I will be giving you lots of opportunities to make up for last time in the near future,” CJ said. She laughed and got out of the car, feeling light and warm as she bounced towards the door, wishing this night would never end.
